What weights should i Start with ?

This is a question a lot of beginners have who want to start weight training at the comfort of their own home, like myself and the answer is truly simple.

CAST IRON VS VINYL VS RUBBER

100% go straight for the cast iron weights, why? They are durable which means they last longer and probably will last throughout your entire training "career" but also you may hear a lot of lifters say "iron casts seem to always feel more heavier" this is a great feel when you are working out and also gives you peace of mind that the weights your using "work" (if there is such a thing but we all have that weird thought in our head), you are definitely going to gain muscle and also cast iron has always had the stamp of approval, isnt it what you always see in the gyms?

Its all psychological, but in the end, these little tings are what motivates to go ahead and stick to the training.

Now we know which to get, we need to know whats wrong with the others,
Vinyl is
CHEAP but there is a reason, its because usually its a thick plastic coating filled up with sand and over time the sand seeps through, and your vinyl weights wont weigh the same and also they all look pretty cheap. Why would you get them? if you really are on a budget then go for it but be prepared to buy a whole new set when the weights start to feel lighter.

RUBBER is expensive, i must admit they are pretty cool, the are more SAFE, and they are pretty much similar to cast iron in terms of staying the same weight and durability, but with rubber on the metal.

Finally there's CHROME which is, what it is, iron with a chrome finish, looks very nice and very EXPENSIVE.

WEIGHT?

As a beginner start of with Dumbbells, as they take up less space in your house and dumbbells can be used with pretty much every exercise.

Start with a 20kg (44lbs) set, which usually comes in 4 x 0.5kg 4 x 1.5kg 4 x 2.5 kg
this is so you can have the dumbbell bars and with that go ahead and get a 4 x 5kg plates.

Start to see if you can dumbbell bench press 10kg (22lbs) on each hand, if you find it easy to reach 10 reps
then put on 2 x 2.5kg plates  on each dumbbell giving you 15kg on each hand which will be a total of 30kg (66lbs)

This will help you have a general idea on how much you can bench press and how much weight you will be able to lift for all your other exercises.

At the same time, or eventually opt-in barbell, try to stay with the same brand.

You can always use, used weight, and this is very popular to those with the mind and situation, and can be found any where, from local farm house, garage sales, boutiques, antique stores, neighbors, trash cans, local charity, church, prisons, behind gyms, through a competition, behind warehouses, in a gym, friends, family, accidentally, through a law case, the opportunities of options on your attainability of metallic weighted plates are infinitely endless beyond imagination.
